dirtypop

Submission Guidelines

We want YOU to contribute!
dirtypop is a social critique of music and pop culture that explores the many contradictions and injustices in mainstream media. dirtypop provides a forum for voices typically underrepresented in the print and art world, particularly those of women, people of color, the LBGT community, and the working class. We are looking (all the time!) for writers and artists to contribute to dirtypop. Check out the detailed guidelines below!

What
to Pitch:

dirtypop accepts pitches for short, front-of-the-mag pieces and for full-length feature essays. What follows are some descriptions to give y'all the flavor. Pitches should be approximately 100 words for short pieces and 500 words for features.
Please send pitches to editor AT dirtypop.org.

Out the Box:

Know any artists, entrepreneurs, or activists who are bustin' down walls and breaking ground? Get the word out in dp! Length: 200-250 words.

Guilty Pleasures:

What's your guilty pleasure? Whether it compromises your politics (like your weakness for R. Kelly hits) or just makes you blush in front of your friends, dp wants to print your juiciest guilty pleasure confession. Length: 200-250 words.

Whack, Whacker, Whackest:

They crossed the line, and now it's your chance to report 'em. Give us the dirt on individuals and organizations who use, abuse, influence, and scheme to get ahead, no matter who gets screwed along the way. Who do you think deserves a spot on our Whack, Whacker, Whackest criminal lineup? Length: 150-200 words.

Critical Essays:

Got a social, political, or cultural issue on your mind that deserves some serious attention? Give us the lowdown in critical essay form. Length: 500-1,000 words.
